Bethany Self,  Pianist & Vocal Coach

Bethany Self, a native of Hanover, Massachusetts, currently serves as an assistant conductor, vocal coach, and rehearsal pianist at Houston Grand Opera. Previous to her staff appointment in 2006, she belonged to the HGO studio for two years. She received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Gordon College where she studied with Mia Chung and toured the Eastern U.S. and Europe with the Gordon College Choir. Ms. Self received her Master of Music degree in Collaborative Piano from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Martin Katz. In the summers of 2001 and 2002, she participated in the Art Song Program with the Brevard Music Center, and in summer 2004 she was a pianist with San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program. In the summer of 2005, she was a pianist and coach for Don Giovanni, Sweeney Todd and La Cenerentola at Wolf Trap Opera. Ms. Self has also been a top prizewinner in the Lotte Lehmann Cybersing Competition and a finalist in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
